liner, Titanic sank to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, and along with
her perished over 1,500 people. It was her maiden voyage.
There weren't enough lifeboats to carry all the passengers, but
even then, some people were too afraid to leave
the huge ship to enter the tiny lifeboats on the massive sea.
So many people perished that night, several of them were the ship's crew.
They gave their lives for others. Many voices called out,"Women and children
first!"
"Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth."
(Proverbs 27:1)
Many souls were not saved by the blood of Jesus, and some of them only had a
matter or hours or minutes before they would die. One man, John Harper, a
Scottish preacher, entrusted his precious little girl ,Nan, to an officer so she
would be placed in the safety of the lifeboat. But he stayed behind, urging
people to entrust their souls to God through Jesus. He did jump before the
great ship sank, but he still tried to help helpless souls: he even gave his
life jacket to a man in the water who wasn't a Christian and said,"Here,
you need this more than I do!" He kept himself up as long as he could,
before the freezing water killed his body.
"Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation."
( II Corinthians 6:2)
It was a wonderfully beautiful ship. Very well detailed, spacious, grand,
room for so many people. I guess you could say the Titanic was a city across
the sea. One of its special features was the grand staircase. It was
absolutely gorgeous.
Many ships in the past have sunk, and this one went along with them. But
this ship did have some special circumstances. The White Star Line
declared the Titanic to be "unsinkable". Plus, someone had said that
even God Himself couldn't sink her! It was a magnificent exploit, and
especially at that time in the turn of the century. Yet, as you compare it
to the iceberg that struck it, the ship doesn't appear as large (from a
bird's eye view that is).
Let us not forget the story of the great Titanic, especially about
receiving God's free gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ
while we have the oppurtunity, and also very important to give
God the glory for our accomplishments and not dare God. The men couldn't
have built the ship if God hadn't given them the ability.
"Jesus said to him,' On the other hand, it is written,
You Shall Not Put The Lord Your God To The Test.' "
