Making Muffins

Last week, I can't remember which day it was, but it was very,
very cold and we weren't expecting it that day, but it snowed.
It was so pretty. A lovely surprise from God. A young couple
we know just had their first baby, so Mom asked if I wanted
to make some blueberry muffins for them and the new mom's
immediate family as part of the meal we were going to make
for them. I had fun. I love to bake. Oh, yes and we had snowcream
that night! Yum!

I borrowed Annah's apron that she made herself!

Can I come in now?

I added sprinkles this time.

Homemade snow cream!

  1. You made a ton of muffins. They look yummy. :)
I really like that apron. The ribbon accents are cute. We've not had any snow here yet just ice. I hope it snows before winter is over.

    Have a great day.

  2. Your muffins look lovely! We make blueberry muffins about once a week around here and they are gone in less than 24 hours -- my 2 boys are addicted to them! We top ours with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar which adds a nice crusty finish to the top. Love that apron! How nice that you are making food for a family with a new baby. When my kids were born, I could not have been more grateful for FOOD since I just was unable to cook! You are thoughtful!

  3. You have me curious, what is snow cream?

Your muffins look delicious, and how wonderful for you all to cook for a family with a new baby. I remember when my babies were born our church providing meals for the first 2 weeks we were home, and I still so thankful for them doing that for us. I know your family is going remember this always.

  4. I've never had snow cream either - it's not known in England, sadly. I'd love to see a recipe for it though. I like your top by the way, Rebecca, purple suits you. The muffins look lovely. :)

    1. Thanks, purple is my favorite color. That and blue.

Snow cream, well here's how we make it. We gather snow (make sure it's clean snow, purely white). In a mixing bowl, the size depending on how many people you're serving, we use a large one. With a wooden spoon, mix the snow together with 1 can of sweetened condensed milk (if you can get any), a teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a little regular milk (for taste).
If you don't want it super sweet, add regular milk 'til you're satisfied with the taste (yes, you have to spoon a little to your lips). If you like it super sweet, don't add regular at all, or only a little bit. No sugar needed to add to it.

If you don't have sweetened condensed milk, use regular milk, snow, sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix it all together. The desired sweetness is up to you.

    2. Thank you, that's great! It sounds absolutely delicious. We had snow yesterday evening/last night, but by this evening (the first chance I had to do anything with it), too much had melted for me to make snow cream. Oh well, next time hopefully.
